No more telegrams from October!

Telegram service will be terminated from the end of October, 2013 said Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya. The use of telegrams has increasingly diminished with the advent of new technology and the Ministry of Posts have been considering the termination of services for a while.

There are 1300 persons employed with the distribution of telegrams, they will be redeployed to other sections.

IMPORT TAX ON POTATOES AND BIG ONIONS INCREASED AGAIN!

The import tax on potatoes has been increased from Rs.25 to Rs.40 per kilogramme while tax on big onions have been increased from Rs.30 to Rs.35 with effect from today (August 23), the Finance Ministry stated.

Opening Ceremony of Rotary Community Wells in Morawewa Division

President Raguram & Rotarians from Trincomalee Club visited Morawewa Area to attend the opening ceremony of the Rotary Community Wells. All these 10 wells are handed over to the respected villagers in the presence of Mr.Sivapala-Asst.Director planning from Divisional Secretariat, Morawewa. The water quality was tested & found in a Good State. This is a Rotary International Matching Grant Project, facilitated by the Rotary Club of Bathavon UK and implemented by the Rotary Club of Trincomalee. The selection of the areas where the wells are to be constructed was done by the Divisional Secretary's Office. These wells will provide drinking water to the families over 700 families. Agreements were signed between Rotary Club of Trincomalee and the Rural Development Societies of the Morawewa Division on the 1st of June 2013, to Sink 10 Nos. wells in these villages.

Now all the 10 wells are handed over for the villagers day to day activities.
